Yarn Untangled Tips: Move the Yarn Balls, Clear Crossed Lines, and Finish Clean

Yarn Untangled is easy to understand and still easy to overplay. The board asks you to move yarn balls until the connecting strands stop crossing. The mistake is grabbing the nearest ball and dragging it around until the lines look better. Cleaner solves come from reading which crossings matter, moving one ball at a time, and leaving the board more open after every move.

Find the worst crossing first

Do not start by moving the ball that looks closest to your cursor. Start with the crossing that creates the biggest knot. In the selected screenshot, the middle strands cut across each other, so the puzzle is really about separating those lines before worrying about tiny adjustments.

Once you identify the worst crossing, look at the two yarn balls that create it. One of them usually has a cleaner place to move. Drag that ball with the mouse and watch how every connected strand changes, not just the one line you wanted to fix.

Move balls into open space

Good Yarn Untangled moves create room. If you drag a yarn ball into the middle of the puzzle, you may fix one crossing while making two new ones. Try to pull connected balls toward open parts of the screen so the strands have more space to spread out.

This is especially useful on early levels. The board is not crowded yet, so you can learn the habit of opening the shape instead of tightening it. Wide spacing makes it easier to see which lines still cross.

Make small final corrections

After the main knot is gone, stop making big moves. Many players ruin a nearly solved board by dragging a ball too far after only one crossing remains. At that point, small corrections are stronger.

Use short mouse movements and check the whole shape after each one. If a strand clears, leave it alone. The goal is not to make a perfect-looking drawing. The goal is to remove every crossed line without rebuilding the knot.

Game example

In Yarn Untangled, the selected frame shows four yarn balls connected by several strands, with the game telling you to tap and hold to move a ball. It is a perfect first-level example: separate the crossed center lines, pull the shape wider, then make smaller adjustments until the yarn is clean.
